Canada’s Goldcorp to buy Andean for $3.2 billion

SYDNEY (Reuters) – Canada’s Goldcorp Inc agreed to buy gold miner Andean Resources Ltd for C$3.6 billion ($3.2 billion), trumping a competing offer from rival Eldorado Gold Corp .

Gold sets record high above $1,040 per ounce

NEW YORK/LONDON (Reuters) – Gold surged to a record high above $1,040 per ounce on Tuesday, fueled by a steadily falling U.S. currency, which prompted investors to buy gold as a hedge against dollar-denominated portfolios.
